MANTRA

The Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA) is a specialised therapeutic approach designed to address the complex nature of anorexia nervosa in adults. This evidence-based therapy combines elements of  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and motivational interviewing to provide a comprehensive treatment approach. MANTRA recognises that anorexia nervosa is a multi-faceted disorder influenced by biological, psychological, and social factors. The therapy focuses on collaboratively working with clients to challenge their rigid beliefs and behaviours surrounding food, body image, and weight. It emphasises the importance of involving family members or significant others in the treatment process to provide support and facilitate a positive environment for recovery. MANTRA aims to help people develop a more flexible and balanced relationship with food and their bodies, while also addressing underlying emotional and interpersonal issues that contribute to the maintenance of anorexia nervosa. This therapy offers a holistic and integrative approach that supports adult clients in their journey towards sustainable recovery from anorexia nervosa.
